Catwoman had slinked down the catwalk. Unfortunately the beams eventually ended, leading into the large mouth of a dark, damp cave. She leapt off of the beams onto the cold concrete floor, which slowly morphed into a beaten rock ground. She shivered in her prison garments.
“Where’s my cat suit when I need it?” She said as she crept into the cave which sloped downward at an awkward angle, as if the cave and the building had at once been completely separated places, but someone had blown through the wall of the cave into the Asylum.
After several yards, Catwoman heard an unfamiliar sound liken to the cave. It was a slithering sound, like that of a large heavy snake being dragged along the cave bottom. The hairs on the back of her neck stood on end, though Selina had spectacular eyesight, there was little light in the cave, making her going; slow, and any on-comers, impossible to see. But she had DEFINITELY heard something. She slowed to a stop and pressed herself against the slimy wall of the cave.
A massive being slithered by, belly against the ground and three massive clawed feet pushing and pulling its body along the ground, one of its front hands was clutched to its side. It stopped moving several feet from where Selina stood, turning its huge snout in her direction and standing onto its two hind feet. The enormous body wheezed several scattered breaths and breathed heavily from its nose.
“Fancy meeting you here.” Selina said sidestepping the massive maw of cluttered, crooked teeth that was only inches from her face. She’d recognize the shape of that jaw anywhere.
“Ah. You.” Croc said in a breathy, tired voice.
“Who were you expecting? I see you’ve been to the gym, handsome.” She said side-stepped into the middle of the cave, brushing the creepy crawlies off of her shoulders, which scurried into the dark, back to the wall. “Eugh, this place gives me the creeps.”
“Careful…” Croc said, slightly miffed. He snorted as he cracked his neck then sighed in relief.
“You look like you’ve seen better days, Mr. Grin.” Selina teased as she took several steps closer to him and noticed, even in the dark, the shoulder that had been clutched to his side was at a bad angle.
“You don’t look so good yourself.” He said raising his eyebrows at her ripped prison garments and wild hair. Selina shrugged, and smoothed back her bangs.
“Listen, since I found you, I’ve got a proposition for you.” She said as an idea ran across her thoughts.
“I’m listening.” He said as he leaned up against the far wall of the cave, grunting at the weight being taken off his tired feet.
“My guess would be that you’ve heard the news about this Mysterious Mr. Blanky?” She asked as she crossed her arms. Croc grunted in agreement. “Well it looks like we gotta kill our way out of here, and as you know, Grin, it’s not really my style to mess up the fur on another cat.”
“What are you implying?”
“I am IMPLYING that we temporarily work together. I round up the troops and you chow down. Looks to me you’re gonna have a hard time racking up any points with that shoulder of yours, and I know a thing or two about fixing up sore joints.”
“What makes you think I’ll agree?” He said in a gravelly voice.
“Didn’t you hear me, doll?” Selina said with a smile, “Your shoulder is banged up bad.” She said gently pressing a fingertip to the shoulder, he winced in pain. “The second you try and nosh another guard they’re gonna stick your right back in your nice little kiddie pool with BARS on it. Stick with me for a while until I can figure out a plan, we split the points and its easy going for both of us.”
“What’s your plan.”
“I got something I gotta check up on.” Selina said as she placed her hands on her hips.
“Ahh.” Croc grinned and let out a low chuckle “the Batman.”
“I said no such thing.”
“Didn’t have to.”
“You in or not lizard-man.” Selina snapped, getting irritated.
“Yeah. I guess I’m in. Better watch your back, kitten, no funny business.”
“Me? Funny business?” she let out a half-laugh “What makes you think I’d ever pull one over on you Crocky? I’m a cat of my word!” She said as she stretched her arms.
“Yeah. Right.” He said as he slowly brought himself to his feet. “Where to?”
Selina pointed in the direction Croc had just come. “That way. I know what’s behind us, just cells and perverts. We might find someone with some useful information in these caves, plus you’ll get some extra home-time.”
Croc grunted in agreement.
“Lead the way.” He groaned.
The two of them took off deeper into the caves, careful to avoid the clearing where moments ago Croc had devoured and killed several guards already. The whole while, Selina’s mind racing as to who had put her in the Asylum in the first place and, yes, where WAS Batman?
