:Name: Dr. Victor Fries (Mr. Freeze)
:Race: Human (Mutated)
:Gender: Male
:Age: 45
:Appearance:
Victor has a tall, lanky build and although he was already bald before his rather unfortunate accident, since then his skin has taken on a light grey tinge, the color drained away by his mutated physiology. In order to move about freely in climates above that which a popsicle would find chilly, Victor makes use of a specially built cryogenic containment suit. The suit, being heavily insulated, adds a startling amount of bulk to the doctor’s physique as well as several inches putting the man at a commanding seven feet tall. The suit’s primary colors and black and silver with exception being the clear done through which Victor’s head protrudes and the menacing red glowing goggles he wears to shield his eyes from any aren’t infrared rays that might penetrate the dome.
:History:
Victor has always been interested in the concept of cold and freezing of materials, even at an early age when his parents discovered his rather morbid hobby of freezing animals in their cellar meat locker and then later attempts to thaw and revive them. Needless to say the child like attempts were unsuccessful, still the interest persisted and as the gifted young man grew in age and intellect his interest evolved. Eventually Victor attended school in pursuit of his doctorate in microbiology and applied cryogenics, along the way meeting his beautiful wife to be, Nora. The two married and after Victor completed school they moved to Gotham where he went to work for Gothcorp in their microbiology department.
All was not the silvery paradise that the two lovers thought life would be though. Shortly after moving to Gotham, Nora was diagnosed with an incurable neurological disorder that would eventually kill her. With no cure or even a promising treatment for the disease looming in the near future, Victor worked desperately to find one on his own. However as his wife’s health steadily failed, it became apparent to him that even his brilliant mind wouldn’t be able to find a treatment for her in time. The only alternative he could see was to preserve her until a cure could be found and as head of the microbiology department, Victor was in a position to do just that. With time short and Nora becoming increasingly ill, Victor constructed a rudimentary cryogenic chamber that would preserve his wife, building on his years of experience in the field. The work was truly magnificent and would have easily won the man a Nobel prize for medicine and Gothcorp great acclaim for financing the machine’s construction. There was only one problem, no one at Gothcorp even knew the machine existed until discrepancies in the department’s accounting cropped up and lead the villainous CEO, Ferris Boyle, to Victor’s secret.
Victor had brought Nora to the lab that night, the poor woman barely able to speak let alone walk. Tear streaming down his face, Victor hauled his wife from her wheelchair into the immersion tank of the cryogenic unit and activated the controls. The machine filled with a clear, synthetic fluid that would remain in a liquid state even at cryogenic temperatures, and lifted Nora from her slumped position at the bottom of the tube, floater her up about half way like an angel gliding on the wind. Just as the machine was beginning the freezing process though the door to the lab burst open and an infuriated Boyle demanded to know what was going on. Victor tried to explain but the man didn’t want to hear it, in his eyes Victor had stolen from the company and he was going to take his property back, including Nora.
Desperate unto the point of insanity to save his wife, Victor attacked Boyle’s thugs but the lithe, slip of a man was no match for them and was literally picked up a hurled across the lab, crashing through one of the immensely complicated chemistry sets that had been used to create the synthetic concoction Nora was floating in. The combination of chemicals, some of whom were toxic and never intended to be mixed in this fashion or even exposed to room temperature, exploded into a brilliant blue fireball. Boyle and his men fled the lab thinking the entire place would go up leaving Nora in her icy sleep and Victor burning in indescribably agony as his very cells were altered by the volatile mixture. The burning didn’t stop, long after the fireball had been extinguished, the very heat in the air was cooking the poor man alive.
Victor managed to survive the mutation process and the resulting condition it brought on long enough to spray himself down with a CO2 fire extinguisher, his pain wracked mind unable to accept the fact that he was not in fact on fire. Eventually though it dawned on him, his clothes were singed from the initial explosion but intact, obviously they hadn’t been burning, which could only mean that come thing had happened to him. With his heat prostration returning rapidly, Victor donned one of the asbestos lines protective suits used while working with cryogenic chemicals, although now it was serving the purpose of keeping the heat out rather then in. This initial suit was even more crude then the tube he’d left Nora in, kept cold by periodic blasts from another fire extinguisher, but it lasted long enough for the man to construct something a little more permanent and escape.
Time passed and although Nora’s cryogenic tube had changed hands more then once, Victor never let the machine get away from him. Even after more an encounter or two with Batman and subsequent imprisonment, Freeze never gave up. All that mattered was finding a cure for Nora, it didn’t matter if he had to seal half the world to finance his research, he had to cure her. His latest caper had landed her tube in the hands of Wayne Enterprises and thankfully the playboy billionaire saw the marvel of engineering for what it was, even going so far as to visit Victor and let him know that Nora would be safe and waiting for him when he was released. Victor had no liking for the man, as far as he was concerned Wayne was just another Boyle and as soon as he had the means, Nora’s tube would be in his possession again.
One might think Victor’s heart cold and unfeeling, a man now governed only by logic and a chilling, dispassionate view and one would be right except in one case. The coldest man on earth has a heart that burns hotter then any other, for his beloved wife, Nora.
:Powers: When fully functional Victor’s cryogenic suit provides him with enhanced strength and durability. His mutated condition although freezing many of his emotions solid also leaved Victor practically immortal and immune to some forms of chemical based attack. Obviously when wearing his suit, the air is filtered and thus no form of chemical attack can harm the man. Victor has also developed a ray gun of sorts using his great knowledge in the field of applied cryogenics, that can freeze objects and people solid using a combination of energy absorption and a concentrated version of the cryogenic chemical he used to preserve Nora. With a water source, the freeze ray can even be used to create objects out of ice.
