Selina rolled her eyes at the other prisoner’s hoots and hollers as she passed by. One of the larger men reached out to grab her.
“How ‘bout a kiss?” he asked. She turned to face him but the prison guards escorting her tightened his grip, causing the spit that had just left her lips to hit the wall next to the prisoner instead of squarely in the face. The prisoner laughed.
As the ended the hallway, she pulled sharply away, not to much avail as her hands were tied behind her back.
“Miss.” The guard said threateningly.
“I know how to walk. I don’t need an escort.” She said as she turned the corner and headed down the hallway.
“Miss, yurr cell is this way…” he pointed his thumb in the opposite direction.
“Yes. I knew that.” She replied as she doubled back and headed in the proper direction. She looked in both directions at the cells that lined the walls. “Where are all the prisoners?”
“It has been requested that you not be a-near any other prisoners.” The guard said timidly as he led her to a cell at the very end of the hallway.
“Why is that? Think I cant handle myself around here?”
“That…that’s part of it.” He said trembling. He stopped outside her cell and fumbled with the keys.
“Want some help, handsome?” She said flashing him a smile. He avoided her gaze and shook his head. “Why wont you look at me? What did I do wrong?” She said cooing at him.
“I ain’t s’posed to talk to you much.” He said as he dropped the massive key ring on the ground. He swore under his breath. Selina slid her foot under the ring and kicked it into the air catching it with her mouth. He reached out and gently removed it from her lips, careful not to make any physical contact…or eye contact for that matter.
“You know,” she said as she leaned against the wall and watch him rummage through the keys once more “I’m not half as bad as they say I am.”
“You’re a criminal.” He said coldly.
“Ouch. That hurts hon.,” She said standing up straight.
“Yur a wanted thief and murd-rer,” he said finally finding the key he wanted. She clicked her tongue at the young kid, seventeen, eighteen tops. His red hair was a mess under his guard cap, his face sprinkled with freckles, his green eyes nearly melting the keys, the way he kept staring at them.
“Kid, you’re a little young to be hanging with this rap. You better know your game before you start playing.” She said softly as he put the key in the lock and turned it slowly. “You don’t really want to lock me up? Do you? I’ll be good I promise.” She said mocking him.
“Here’s your cell.” He said ignoring her.
“I’ll be a good kitty.” She said smirking
“Please go in.” he said still avoiding eye contact.
“Just feed me twice a day and give me a nice place to sleep, I wont hurt anyone.”
“ENOUGH!” he yelled.
In the next several seconds, many things happened. The young guard, the nametag read “HENRY” Selina noticed, raised his club and made to hit her, but she was too fast. She kicked her leg quickly, connecting with the side of his neck pushing him against the wall.
“See what I mean? You don’t even know what you’re doing with that club now do you? You wouldn’t hit a poor little girl like me? Would you?” she lowered her leg. He stepped back but she kicked him flat in the back pushing him back up against the wall. “Don’t they lock people up in here for beating girls?”
“You ain’t s’posed to do—“ he began, but she whipped him around, sharply hitting his head against the concrete wall next to her cell.
“Look here, kiddo. I’ve worked too damn hard and too damn long to be locked up by the likes of you for a crime I haven’t even done. You got the wrong girlie, now get those keys and unlock my hands.”
There was a pause.
“N-n-no.”
“Excuse me?” She said as she took a step closer. “Did you say ‘no’?” he shook his head, still avoiding eye contact. “Do it.” She said sharply. The boy scurried over to the keys, quickly found the proper one and unlocked her. “Good boy.”
“I can’t let you leave, miss.”
“Oh, dear, I’m afraid I’m not giving you a choice.” She said as she tilted up his chin, forcing him to make eye contact with her, and flashed a smile.
Moments later the guard named HENRY was handcuffed to inside of her cell, and she was strutting back down the rowdy hallway.
“Hey lady, how ‘bout that kiss?” the prisoner yelled to her from his cell. The other prisoners hooted and hollered.
“A kiss you say,” She said as she skipped over to his cell. “Do you know which way the exit is?”
“Sure do.”
“Ah, what a gentleman. And which was is that.”
“Not until you give me a kiss.” More cheering from the peanut gallery.
“Ah ah ah. Tell me first.” There was loud booing. The man considered his options.
“Left at the end of this hallway, you’ll have to ask another inmate from there.” He said as a smile spread across his face. Selina scowled and turned to leave but a large hand grabbed her arm. “I think you owe me somethin’.”
“Ah, where are my manners?” she said as she spun around to face him and reached in through the bars to grab his head gently pulling it towards her own as he puckered his lips, then she swiftly banged his head into the bars with such force that he stumbled back and fell.
She wiped her hands together as the booing persisted, the inmates right up against their bars reaching out to her trying to rip her to shreds. But she was too quick, and scampered down the hallway out of reach before they had the chance.
She had to get out of here, end of story. She couldn’t believe for all the crimes she had committed, she gets locked up for one she didn’t even do. Her options were limited, a girl in prison garments wouldn’t go unnoticed… her thought process trailed off as she looked up and noticed the wide metal support beams for the building. She considered the wall, took a few steps back and at a running start, ran at the wall and jumped grabbing on to a torch-post, swinging herself around it and flying through the air, landing perfectly on one of the beams. She exhaled.
“Made it onto the cat-walk…Now to get the hell out of here.”
“How ‘bout a kiss?” he asked. She turned to face him but the prison guards escorting her tightened his grip, causing the spit that had just left her lips to hit the wall next to the prisoner instead of squarely in the face. The prisoner laughed.
